Black Women and Five Reasons

Five Reasons No One Wants a Black Woman is a YouTube video done by Christelyn Karazin. It was an interesting and annoying 5 minutes. Don’t get me wrong because I have nothing against her or her views on the topic. I will say that the subject matter is definitely one of relevance and is discussed often. In this viewer’s mind, her attempt to educate was overshadowed by self-promotion with the help of her invisible announcer Carl. Her reasons have been heard many times and they still need to be addressed.

Karazin’s five reasons were: 1) Black women are ugly, 2) Dark skin is ugly, 3) Black women are all too fat and their ass is too big, 4) No one likes our hair and 5) Everything is our fault. The reasons are generalizations; however instead of using other black women to dispel these reasons she constantly referred to herself. Carl, her assistant, was invisible and for all we know could have been an automated voice. I wasn’t impressed. So I decided to dig a little deeper.

AfroCentric Beauty

I found that Chris Karazin is definitely an advocate for the black woman. She believes black women are capable and worthy of love. This love, in her opinion, could come from a different race. She is the author of Swirling: How to Date, Mate and Relate Mixing Race, Culture and Creed. So the topic isn’t foreign to her. Upon learning this I decided to view the video again.

The reasons still struck me as generalizations and Carl was still annoying, but she did try to put a positive twist on the negatives. I did have to take in consideration what she said; many are reluctant to classify us as beautiful because we don’t fit the classic image of what society deems as beautiful. The lightness or darkness of our skin tone is in our DNA and that adds to our beauty and diversity. Admittedly some of us are overweight and some of us have a rear that isn’t very curvaceous. No matter what our hair looks like someone is going to have an issue with it. Society has made us scapegoats so we will constantly be blamed for the bad and any good we do will take a backseat.

There are many more reasons why no one wants a black woman. Every day the media is coming up with new excuses all the time. We’re loud, obnoxious, unintelligent, promiscuous, have attitude, insensitive, unloving, ghetto and too many more to list. However, if the truth be told every race has those who fit these descriptions. What many know is that the black women are awesome and resilient. The negative stereotypes may weigh us down, but we still stand tall.

Instead of looking for and publishing reasons that no one wants us why not uplift us? Instead of finding negative excuses for not dating us just say it’s not your preference. Instead of blaming us for everything that’s wrong in the world spread the blame out equally because we all play a part in the problems. Instead of hating us just love us, and with that being said here are my Five Reasons Black Women Rock: 1) Black women are resilient, 2) Black women are intelligent, 3) Black women are loving, 4) Black women are supportive and 5) Black women are beautiful in all shades.

Simply put she is finally enjoying life. Each day is a chance for a new discovery. She had a very sheltered existence and now daring to venture out into the world. She has taken off the limitations and trying new things. She is single by choice, but looking forward to her next relationship. Living in the Chesapeake, VA area for now, but open to the next move.

That statement was false the minute she let it come out of her mouth.
