The 80’s bought out a lot of R&B groups but one group that moved almost every young girl from the East to the West coast was (drum roll please)….
Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky Mike and Ralph – yes, New Edition stepped on the scene and made every young girl run out of their jellies and stop double-dutching to hear songs like Candy Girl, Mr. Telephone, Cool It Now (just to name a few). Most loyal fans remember as the group got older and changes were made – Johnny Gill became a member – we missed Bobby but we loved Johnny.
My mother took me to my first New Edition concert at the Forum in Inglewood, CA. I can remember when it was announced the group was coming to the stage; I squeezed my mother’s hand so hard and squealed so loud (although there were hundreds of other young girls around me doing the same thing) that she vowed to NEVER take me to another New Edition concert again. I had the posters, every album, watched ever video and my cousins and I knew every lyric and dance step. We each had our own New Edition “boyfriend”…Can you guess who was my NE crush?
Today on #TBT Ms. Nix and staff would like to pay tribute to one of 80’s best male groups…
